Cole Sherwood, a Vanderbilt men’s golf alumnus from the Class of 2024, won his first professional tournament on the Korn Ferry Tour by claiming victory at the Colonial Life Charity Classic. The win was announced on May 17 and marks Sherwood’s first professional title since joining the tour through PGA TOUR University after finishing his collegiate career at Vanderbilt.
Sherwood finished with a total score of 16-under-par 264 over four rounds at The Woodcreek Club in Elgin, South Carolina. His daily scores were 68, 66, 64, and 66. This achievement comes just one week after another Vanderbilt alumnus, Brandt Snedeker (Class of 2003), won the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic for his first PGA TOUR victory in more than seven years.
Four former Vanderbilt golfers made the cut at this week’s Colonial Life Charity Classic. Will Gordon (Class of 2019) tied for 23rd place with an eight-under-par total of 272. Theo Humphrey (Class of 2018) tied for 36th with a six-under-par total of 274 over four rounds. Matthew Riedel finished tied for 73rd after carding a one-under-par score of 279.
The success highlights recent achievements by former members of the Vanderbilt men’s golf program as they continue to compete professionally.
Looking ahead, the current Vanderbilt men’s golf team is set to begin play in the NCAA Athens Regional as the No.3 seed starting Monday at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The team will attempt to qualify for its twelfth consecutive NCAA Championship.
