Rep. Mark Green, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Tennessee’s 7th district, has been vocal on issues related to shipbuilding and strategic advantages of the United States. Through a series of tweets, he addressed concerns about matching the People’s Republic of China’s (PRC) ship output and discussed various federal programs that could assist in revitalizing America’s maritime capabilities.

On May 8, 2025, Rep. Green emphasized the need for more shipbuilders and skilled tradesmen to match PRC’s ship output. He suggested that “Federal programs for vocational training, PELL grants, and a reworked federal loan system will do much to help #MakeAmericaSailAgain.” Read more in @Heritage’s report on revitalizing.

The following day, May 9, 2025, he warned about the PRC’s strategic positioning: “The PRC is positioning itself to systematically erode U.S. strategic advantages without ever firing a shot.” https://t.co/Hanf3KSKxB.

Later on May 9, Rep. Green highlighted an issue within the U.S. tax code affecting contractors involved in building new ship production capabilities: “Did you know contractors are double taxed on building new ship production capabilities? This snarl in the U.S. tax code creates a double-taxing phenomenon—driving up the cost of new production and suppressing job growth.” He advocated for rectifying this situation within the tax code to support economic growth and development.

Mark E. Green has served in Congress since replacing Marsha Blackburn in 2019 after previously serving in the Tennessee Senate from 2013 to 2018. Born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1964, he currently resides in Clarksville at age 58.
