The Middle Tennessee women’s golf team finished the opening round of the Golfweek Spring Challenge in second place, carding a score of 289 (+4) on April 6 at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

This result places the Blue Raiders near the top of the leaderboard as they continue through the tournament. Their strong start gives them an opportunity to contend for top honors over the remaining rounds.

A sophomore golfer led Middle Tennessee with a one-under-par 70, marking her fifteenth career round at par or better. She recorded five birdies during her round, including four on the front nine, and is currently seventh overall among individual players.

Two other Blue Raiders both posted even-par rounds of 71 to tie for ninth place individually. Each player made two birdies and two bogeys; most of Bowman’s scoring came on the back nine while Pardue’s occurred mainly on the front. Both achieved their fifth career rounds at par or better.

Another team member sits fourth among Blue Raiders after shooting a six-over-par 77, tying for forty-seventh overall. Despite challenges on her back nine, she steadied her play with an even front nine to close out her day. The lineup was rounded out by another player who carded an 81 (+10), placing tied for eighty-second, while another individual competitor from Middle Tennessee turned in a score of eight-over-par 79 to sit tied for sixty-ninth after eighteen holes.

The team’s performance positions them well heading into subsequent rounds as they look to build upon their opening-day success.
