As part of its growing Entrepreneurship Leadership (EL) Program, Battle Ground Academy is hosting a “Sustainability in Entrepreneurship” symposium on Tuesday, April 12, from 6 to 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Sondra Morris and Robert N. Moore, Jr. ’52 Center for Arts and Entrepreneurship on BGA’s Glen Echo campus. It is open to the public with required registration at www.battlegroundacademy.org/elsymposium.
At the symposium, which is supported by the Yarbrough Family Foundation, a panel of entrepreneurial leaders will discuss the importance and current footprint of sustainability in entrepreneurship. Rod Berger, partner at Strategos Group, will serve as the moderator of an esteemed panel that includes:
- Sarah Kauss, Founder of S’well
- Raven Hernandez, CEO and Founder of EarthRides
- Lee Jestings, CEO and Founder of Enexor
- Mike Williams, Director of Manufacturing at Mars Petcare
As Hallie Heiter, BGA’s Director of Entrepreneurial Leadership, notes: “Our planet benefits from the fruit of human creation, but it also bears the refuse. As topics like global warming, littered oceans, and endangered species continue to grab headlines, BGA is excited to welcome a sustainability-focused panel that will unpack these issues and help our community learn how putting the planet first can be the swiftest way to profits, too.”
Sustainability in entrepreneurship is growing – and BGA is excited to welcome to campus a pioneer in that field, Sarah Kauss. The widely recognized founder of S’well, a $185 million brand that focuses on the development and distribution of reusable, insulated products, Sarah will address BGA’s entire Upper School on April 13.
“Having an entrepreneur of Sarah Kauss’ caliber spend time with our students is invaluable for our entire student body,” added Heiter. “We greatly appreciate the Yarbrough Family Foundation for making Sarah’s visit to BGA’s campus possible.”
Launched in 2015, BGA’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Program is one of the few four-year comprehensive entrepreneurship programs being offered by high schools in the country. It equips students with skills and mindsets to creatively solve real-world problems through hands-on active learning.
BGA opened the Sondra Morris and Robert N. Moore, Jr. ’52 Center for Arts and Entrepreneurship in 2021. In addition to a new theater and auditorium, the 44,000-square-foot facility houses the Yarbrough Family Center for Entrepreneurship, which serves as the home for the school’s EL Program. This space features four entrepreneur-focused classrooms, five breakout spaces – including one with audio/video equipment for recording presentations and vocal performances and a maker space with a 3D printer, laser cutters and a host of other technologically advanced prototyping tools.
