Lee University Launches LeeU Promise

As part of its commitment to making college more affordable, Lee University has announced the launch of LeeU Promise, a scholarship program for incoming freshmen who reside in Tennessee. LeeU Promise will begin awarding by fall semester 2023.

“In this time, when college affordability remains one of the top concerns for students and parents who are considering college, we feel LeeU Promise will be especially good for underserved student populations in Tennessee and will provide a high-quality Christian alternative to public institutions across the state,” said Shane Griffith, Lee’s assistant vice president for enrollment. “We are already consistently among the most affordable private Christian universities in the nation, but for many Tennessee students, this will bring Lee even closer.”

LeeU Promise is a “last-dollar” scholarship program that covers the remainder of a student’s tuition if they receive full Pell and HOPE scholarships. “Last-dollar” means that this award is not a static amount, but variable from student to student. Once a student’s other aid comes through, LeeU Promise will cover any outstanding tuition dollars on the bill.

In order to be eligible for LeeU Promise, a student must apply to Lee, be Tennessee HOPE eligible, and complete the FAFSA by April 1. Parent Adjusted Gross Income must be less than $36,000, and LeeU must be the first college for the student following high school graduation.

“We are excited about the initiation of LeeU Promise,” said Griffith. “We hope it will prove helpful toward the goal of assuring that our top-tier, Christ-centered university experience is accessible and affordable.”
