The Northeast State Bears finished their first esports regular season with big wins, tough losses, and a great spirit of fun and fellowship. The Bears concluded their regular season on Nov. 19 with five Bears’ teams making the NJCAA Esports playoffs!
The playoffs begin tonight with the Rocket League Bears battling Mineral Area College (Mineral, Mo.) at 7:00 p.m. in the Basler Arena. Playoff rounds 1-3 will be played at 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m., and 9:30 p.m. The matches are best of 7 and single elimination.
Super Smash Brothers Ultimate team squares off against Terra State Community College (Fremont, Ohio) on Nov. 30 at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The playoffs go through three rounds happening 6:00 p.m., 7::00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The matches are best of five games and double elimination.
The Valorant Bears faces Guilford Technical Community College (Jameston, N.C.) on December 1 at 6:30 p.m. The series format is the best of three games and single elimination format.
Overwatch 2 squad takes on St. Clair College (Ontario, Canada) in a rematch of the team’s first regular season game. The 1st and 2nd playoff rounds are scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The format is best of five games series with single elimination for the losing team.
League of Legends plays Northern Virginia Community College (Annandale, Va.) on December 3 with playoff rounds scheduled at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The playoff series is best of three games with single elimination for the losing team.
The regular season wrap up
The Super Smash Brothers Ultimate team of Silas Shook (alias GamerTheC) and Kayden Haselton (alias Lunacy) made believers with superb play and near flawless season records. Haselton finished the season 6-1 dropping a tough two games to one series against an opponent from Dallas College (Dallas, Texas). Shook finished the regular season undefeated at 7-0.
The Rocket League Bears finished the regular season with five wins and two losses. Hayley Field (Snow_flakess), Mason Ramsey (Tan_O_Cuna), and Ethan Fink (Radio) closed out their season with a thrilling 3-2 series win over Jackson College (Jackson, Mich.). The hot-rods-on-the-soccer-pitch trio finished the regular season with a record of five wins and two losses.
The Valorant Bears fell 3-2 in a furious final series against Iowa Central Community College (Fort Dodge, Iowa) on Nov. 17. Tied 1-1 in the best of three game series, the deciding game went to overtime. In each Valorant game, the first team to win 13 face-offs wins the game. The overtime battled raged until Iowa Central won 26-24 in the final game. The Valorant squad of Alex Defreece (Shaggy); Bryson Raymond (RaiRaine); Gavin Callahan (Gavy); Will Francis (bullfrogging); and Fields (Snow_flakess) finished the regular season 4-2.
The Overwatch 2 crew finished the season besting Southwest Oregon Community College (Coos Bay. Ore.) 3-0 and Alexandria Technical and Community College (Alexandria, Minn.) by 3-0. The team fell 3-0 to St. Claire (Ontario, Canada) in the final game of the season. The Overwatch 2 Bears finished their season record to two wins against four losses. The team of Benjamin Brooks (Fatal); Dylan Presnell (Arashi); Courtland McGuire (ColdCoin); Leo Phillips (Passion); Ashley Andrade (Scorpio); and Logan Dunn (TheApollo11) found their groove late in the season with good momentum rolling into the playoffs.
The League of Legends Bears finished the season 5-2 with impressive late season wins over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (Perkinston, Miss.) and Spokane Community College (Spokane, Wash.). The Bears LoL team of Daniel Rameriz (Mira Mis Puntos); Tyler Winters (Yuki); Jay Bronson (JayTheFallenOne); Nathan Columbe (GhostDogHowl); Landon Burton (ThePredator); and Jason Brown (MageGods) proved a more than formidable team during the season.
The Bears’ Call of Duty: Vanguard fighters posted two series wins of the season on Nov. 7 and Nov. 14 to finish with two wins against five losses. The CoD: Vanguard team of Kaitlyn Snyder (PsychoKitty) Kayden Snyder (Drillbit), Isaac Stewart (Swiftcoastal) and Levi Dill (jakapoo2) played tenaciously against tough competition all season.
