HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
- The Lions raced out to an early lead, as they scored the first eight points of the game before Ellington dropped a three with 6:22 to play.
- Emmanuel would hit a three, but on the other end of the floor Jhayda McKinney made a layup, making the score 11-5.
- The Tornado started to close the gap late in the quarter, as Alexa Gramann hit a layup, which was followed by another three from Ellington, making the score 20-12.
- The Lions would score the final seven points of the period to take a 27-12 lead.
- After Emmanuel scored the first bucket of the quarter, Ellington stepped to the free throw line and knocked down a pair, making the score 29-14.
- The Lions then would score the next six points and held the Tornado scoreless until 3:57 left to play, when Ellington hit another pair of free throws, making the score 35-16.
- Jaelyn West also found the scoresheet, hitting a layup with 3:09 to play.
- Emmanuel would finish the half on a 10-2 run to take a 47-20 lead at halftime.
- The Tornado opened the second half by scoring the first six points, including back-to-back jumpers from Tori Smiley, cutting the lead to 47-26.
- After Ashley Allen hit a pair of free throws, McKinney made a layup to bring the Tornado to within 53-30.
- Emmanuel would close the quarter on a 11-6 run, with Rikkelle Miller delivering three of those points with just two seconds to play.
- King and Emmanuel traded buckets early, with Campbell hitting a pair of layups, including one with 7:53 to play that made the score 66-40.
- The Lions would slowly continue to stretch their lead, eventually going up 75-45 with 3:17 left to play.
- Jaden Potts and Aroa Garcia would both hit buckets in the closing minutes, but the Tornado were unable to close the defecit, falling 83-51.
- Ellington finished with 13 points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc, and 4-of-4 shooting from the free throw line.
- Rikkelle Miller had a career-high seven rebounds.
- Jeanetta Elder led all scorers, scoring 19 points and pulling nine rebounds.
- Abby Crawford and Sydney Wyatt both had 15 points.
- The Tornado will play two final home games this week, starting Thursday afternoon against UNC Pembroke. Tipoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
