The King University women's wrestling team opened the defense of their NWCA National Duals championship against ninth-ranked Gannon University in a quarterfinal on Friday afternoon. The Tornado used four technical fall victories and three pins to defeat the Knights 34-12 and advance to the semifinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Second-ranked Jessica Corredor got the Tornado off to a good start with a 10-0 technical fall win over Chloe Kitagawa at 101 pounds.
- However, the Knights answered as fourth-ranked Julianne Moccia pinned top-ranked Sage Mortimer at 109 pounds to give Gannon the edge.
- King then took back-to-back technical fall victories from third-ranked Danielle Garcia at 116 pounds and fourth-ranked Vayle-Rae Baker at 123 pounds.
- Garcia topped Samantha Larsen and Baker defeated Juliana Cubias.
- The Tornado then won the next five matches, three in a row by pin.
- Third-ranked Montana DeLawder pinned of Jayden Basemore in 1:37 at 130 pounds, before sixth-ranked Viktorya Torres pinned eighth-ranked Lana Perez in 4:22 at 136 pounds.
- Top-ranked Ana Luciano pinned Lily Ujfalvi in 3:31 at 143 pounds to push the Tornado advantage to 27-7.
- At 155 pounds, fifth-ranked Tiffani Baublitz earned a 4-0 win over Annabelle Helm who was ranked seventh at 170 pounds.
- Second-ranked Chey Bowman took a 10-0 technical fall win over sixth-ranked Jewel Gonzalez at 170 pounds.
- King took the dual 34-12 following a forfeit at 191 pounds.
- The Tornado will be in action in a semifinal on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. against fourth-ranked McKendree University. The championship and third place matches are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
- Gannon takes on Emmanuel College or Tiffin University on Friday afternoon.
