Kellan Kennedy and Warren Davis paced the King University men's volleyball team to a win at Queens University on Friday night. Along with that tandem, the Tornado block was led by Aaron Milstead as King posted season-high in blocks in the 3-1 victory.


THE BASICS

FINAL SCORE: King 3, Queens 1 (25-20, 25-27, 25-21, 25-18)

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Set

  • Consecutive Kennedy kills following an AJ Drooker kill gave King an early 8-4 lead.
  • The Royals came back and pulled within one, but King went on another run, scoring five of the next six points.
  • A solo stuff from Milstead gave King a 14-9 advantage.
  • The Tornado held the at five points and took the set 25-20 on a Jack Sarnowski kill.
Second Set

  • The set was even at 10 before the Tornado rolled off four straight points and five of the next six to take a 15-11 lead.
  • Sarnowski posted a kill, an ace and block assist with Kennedy as Milstead started the run with a kill.
  • King later led 18-14 on following a stuff from Milstead and Drooker.
  • However, Queens scored four consecutive points to even the score.
  • The Tornado led 21-19 and 22-20, but Queens scored three straight points to take the lead.
  • However, King responded with a kill from Sarnowski as the teams traded points.
  • The Royals eventually scored back-to-back points to take the set 27-25.
Third Set

  • The teams went back-and-forth in the early going before King tried to gain separation in the middle of the set.
  • The Tornado broke a tie at 13 with three straight points, including a block from Kennedy and Jackson Carroll.
  • King later called a timeout as Queens scored three straight points to pull within 19-18.
  • The Royals tied the set at 19, and 20 before consecutive kills from Davis and Kennedy gave King a 22-20 lead and forced a Queens timeout.
  • A Davis kill gave King a chance at set point before a block from Kennedy and Drooker gave King the 25-21 win.
Fourth Set

  • King started the set with a Milstead block and opened up a 9-5 lead that forced Queens to call timeout.
  • Out of the break, the Royals scored five straight points to take a 10-9 lead.
  • However, King bounced back with a 5-1 run to take a 14-11 lead.
  • A block from Kennedy and Carroll followed by a kill from Davis gave King a 19-14 lead and forced another Queens timeout.
  • The Tornado held the lead there, eventually taking the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Davis led the way for the Tornado with 15 kills and 11 digs for another double-double.
  • Kennedy posted an attack percentage of .650 with 14 kills to go along with four blocks.
  • Carroll added nine kills and 12 digs while Justin Sawyer chipped in with nine digs.
  • Sarnowski handed out 39 assists to go along with four kills and five digs.
  • Milstead added eight blocks, including three solo stuffs.
FOR THE FOES

  • Matthew Pilch led Queens with 17 kills and seven digs while Ananias Hayes added 10 kills.
  • Brian Schwob handed out 37 assists and added six digs.
  • Guillermo Jordan led the back row with 10 digs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • King posted a season-high 14 blocks in the match.
