Morgan Whitley and Caitlin Paulins both claimed Conference Carolinas championships this week at the Indoor championships to lead the King University women's track and field teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Whitley won the championship in the 5000 meters, finishing with a time of 18:27.93 to earn her first career conference championship. She is the first Tornado to win the indoor conference championship in the 5000 meters since Eliza Parker in 2014.
- Emily Ward placed seventh in the 5000 meters, crossing the line in 19:19.49.
- Whitley also had a third-place finish in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:45.80.
- Paulins won the pole vault with a mark of 3.28 meters.
- The Distance Medley Relay team consisting of Morgan Whitley, Paulins, Katy Neubert and Mandy Lowery took third, with a time of 12:53.72, setting a new school record in the process.
- Neubert also finished third in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:24.18.
- In the mile, Lowery brought home a 10th-place finish, with a time of 5:32.33.
- Annah Blankenship was awarded the Elite 23 award, presented by McGriff Insurance Services. This is the second consecutive year that the Tornado have won this award. It is awarded to the student-athlete at each finals site with the highest GPA.
- The Tornado will next be in action March 4 at the Susan Rouse Invitational, hosted by Southern Wesleyan University.
