The King University baseball team dropped both ends of their Conference Carolinas doubleheader Sunday, dropping the first game 4-2 to Barton before falling 18-7 in the second game of the day.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS

  • Chase Hilliard was 5-for-6 on the day, with three RBI, a double and a home run.
  • Preston Steele had a pair of doubles, going 4-for-7 at the plate.
  • Junior Renwick was 3-for-7, with two RBI and two runs scored.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • After threatening to score in the second, the Bulldogs took the lead in the bottom of the third on a two-run home run.
  • That woke up the King offense, as they would score two runs in the fourth, with Renwick and Hilliard getting back-to-back RBI hits. Renwick singled to score Steele, while Hilliard doubled into left field, bringing Renwick across the plate, tying the score at two.
  • After a couple of Barton threats, the Bulldogs pulled ahead in the sixth, scoring two runs on four hits to go ahead 4-2.
  • Hilliard had a one-out single in the top of the seventh, but that was all the offense King was able to muster as Barton held on for the 4-2 win.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • It was a high-scoring affair early, as both teams scored three runs in the first inning, before adding another run in the second to tie the game at two.
  • The Tornado scored again in the third, as Garret Huffman reached on a fielder's choice, with Renwick scoring on a fielding error to put King in front 5-4.
  • Wes Bonney started the King half of the fourth with a double down the left field line, setting up Hilliard to hit a home run to left field, putting the Tornado in front 7-4.
  • Barton responded in their half of the inning, scoring four runs on two hits to take an 8-7 lead. They would go on to score four more runs in the sixth, taking a 12-7 lead.
  • Barton would add six in the seventh, taking an 18-7 lead they would hang onto, sweeping the doubleheader, and the series.

FOR THE FOES

  • Tanner Halvorson got the job done in all aspects for Barton, going 6-for-7 at the plate, with a home run, a double and six RBI. He also threw seven innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
  • Carelle Gonzalez, Ryan McIsaac and Chase Waddell all had home runs for the Bulldogs.
