Shelby County Sheriff's Department Melissa Fox Special Recognition of Adam Shift Patrol Deputy

048e

Deputy Melissa Fox has been instrumental in assisting the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office in reaching out and providing insight into the various needs of the large Hispanic community. These include: beginning the dialogue between LEO’s and the Hispanic community; opening up a space where resources are shared to help bridge the gap; and emerging SCSO into more active community policing.

Deputy's initiatives include:

• Speaking with Alliance Healthcare Services about all the mental health resources they provide for Hispanics.

• Speaking to the District Attorney General's Office, which provides outreach to the Hispanic Community.

• Coordinating with "Casa Luz" (House of Light). Casa Luz is the only Hispanic non-profit in Memphis/Shelby County that is full-service for victims of domestic violence and victims of violent crimes.

Deputy Fox has also included MPD's Hispanic Liaison in her outreach and hopes neighboring agencies will follow and provide additional resources to law enforcement officers. Deputy Fox is actively working to keep bilingual deputies a part of each step and show the Hispanic Community a culture of Hispanic deputies wearing the uniform and badge who are proud of their culture and will be the difference for the next generation. She is a great credit to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
