Rep. Mark Green, a congressman representing Tennessee’s 7th district since 2019, shared his views on issues of American culture and international censorship via several tweets on April 14, 2025. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, and currently residing in Clarksville, Green served in the Tennessee Senate from 2013 to 2018 before moving to the U.S. Congress, succeeding Marsha Blackburn.

On April 14, 2025, Green wrote, “Xi Jinping is not interested in importing American culture. There is a reason China refused to show ‘Spider Man: No Way Home’ unless the Statue of Liberty was cut out. That’s why I introduced the Stopping Communist Regimes from Engaging in Edits Now (SCREEN) Act. More in”. Here, Green discusses the Chinese government’s alleged attempt to edit American movies motivating him to propose new legislation aimed at counteracting such actions.

Green further expressed his views on the same day, stating, “There is no room for political violence in this country. This was a heinous act that deserves swift justice. I’m glad Governor Shapiro and his family are safe.” The tweet conveyed his relief over the safety of Governor Shapiro and family following a violent incident; however, specific details about the event were not provided.

Continuing his stance on censorship by international entities, Green reiterated, “The CCP is pulling American movies from China’s market in the hopes Hollywood will surrender to their censorship demands. We can’t allow a repressive communist regime to define American entertainment. Congress needs to pass my SCREEN Act now!” It underscores Green's argument that American entertainment should not fall prey to international censorship by regimes like China.

Mark E. Green is currently serving in the U.S. Congress, representing Tennessee’s 7th district. He replaced previous U.S Congress member Marsha Blackburn in 2019.
